What are our projects?
Past
We conducted a lunchroom waste audit in October, 2017. From this audit, we found that Mount Si High School's waste consisted of enormous amounts of clean paper bags, empty milk cartons and plastic bottles-- all of which can be recycled. It was calculated that 1/3 of Mount Si High School's waste was recyclable. We then took this newfound information and worked to implement a recycling program into our school's lunchrooms.
Present
Currently, we are working on making our recycling program self-sustaining, and making efforts to switch out styrofoam trays in the cafeteria for reusable trays! When transitioning between our current school's current campus and the new construction, we want to donate furniture that would otherwise be dropped off at the dump. We are also working on restoring the native plants at Kimble Creek and removing the invasive species.
future
We hope to:
- Maintain sustainable systems in the school's future construction
- Implement a composting system
- Introduce a new generation of the Green Team
- Conduct a student-run local planting
- Work on habitat restoration in the Kimball Slough
